1845 Pattern British Royal Navy Cutlass

This is an 1845 pattern British Royal Navy cutlass with sheet steel half basket hilt with turned down back edge, ribbed iron grip and 26 inch (66cm) straight steel blade.

The blade ricasso is stamped with the British War Department mark ' W⩚D', Enfield inspectors proof stamp of crown over 'E 63' and the Royal Navy 'N'.

The opposite ricasso has the 1887 conversion stamp 'C/87'.

In very good condition with clean undamaged blade.

1889 Pattern British Naval Seaman's Cutlass

This is a very good example of a 1889 pattern British navel seaman's cutlass with an 28 inch (75cm) straight flat steel blade, half basket hilt with turned down edges and ribbed iron grip.

The underside of the guard is stamped with Enfield War Department contract stamp '⩚EFD' and the Royal Navy 'N' stamp.

The blade ricasso is also stamped '⩚EFD' and other proof stamps.

In good solid original condition with a clean undamaged blade.

This one has the diamond shape brass plate for the rack number, but left blank.

The blade ricasso is stamped with the British War Department mark and the Enfield inspectors proof stamp of crown over 'E 30' the opposite side has the 1887 conversion stamp 'C/87'.

In totally original good solid condition with clear markings. 

Some chips to edge of blade.

French P1831 Artillery Short Sword

A French 1831 pattern brass handle dismounted artillery mans short sword, marked Talabotts Paris with black leather brass mounted scabbard. 

Blade, length 49cm, total length 64cm
The French 1816-1831 sword was based on ancient sculptural depictions of the Roman Gladius, the standard sword of the Roman legionaries.
Both sword and scabbard are in good condition with just some rust patches to blade.

Norwegian Krag Jorgensen M1894 Long Bayonet
This is the long version of the Krag Jorgensen M1894 bayonet and is not easy to find as most M1894 bayonets were shortened during WW2. This bayonet was made at Kongsberg Arsenal and has the Crowned 'K' on the blade. It has matching numbers of "124777" on both the crossguard and scabbard lip. The grips are slab wood and secured with a single screw bolt, it has a push button bayonet release which operates as it should. The blade measures 37cm long and is clean with fullers extending to within 4" of the tip. The steel scabbard is in very good undented condition

Complete with with its original frog.

A very good example of a hard to find bayonet.

British P1853 Pattern Cavalry Troopers Sword. Midlothian Yeomanry

An interesting British P1853 cavalry troopers sword with 3bar steel handguard engraved on top M.L.Y for the Midlothian Yeomanry.

35.5 inch blade, ricasso stamped with British Army inspection crown over B13 and spine with the maker REEVES (faint).

Pressed leather slab grips secured by five rivets.

Blade is straight, undamaged and has a nice aged patina.

Hilt is solid to the blade, some wear to one side of leather grips.

British Pattern 1853 Cavalry Trooper's sword with a 35 ½ inch curved spear point blade, double edged for the last 9inces, ricasso with the German manufactures mark of J&C and British crown proof mark stamped to the opposite side.

Chequered leather two piece grips riveted to each side of the tang, wrought iron three bar guard with top of tang engraved R.H.A DT 155.

All in very good condition. Straight blade tight hilt.

Prussian M1873 Artillery Sword

Prussian world war one era M73 artillery enlisted man's sword with original steel scabbard.

The hilt is firm and the bakelite grips are undamaged, the blade spine is marked with a crown over W 00 indicating the year 1900.

Blade with original bright finish and is generally clean with just odd patches of discoloration.

The original scabbard is regimentally marked 'S.S.2.II.6.111' and is dent free.

Good overall condition.

British P1856 Pioneer Sawback Sword

A P1856 Pioneers Sawback sword & scabbard marked to the Royal Sussex Regiment.

The 22.5” blade stamped on one side of the ricasso “Wilkinson London” '03 (for the date 1903) and inspection stamp of a crown over B.R over 4. The other side stamped with WD arrow, inspection mark Crown over 35 and X (bent test mark). Hilt with brass ribbed grip and guard.

Complete with it's original brass mounted black leather scabbard stamped on throat

R.S.R.3 for the 3rd Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment.

Sword and scabbard are as found, with staining and pitting to blade.

Imperial Prussian M1871 Sword Bayonet
A regimentally marked Imperial Prussian M1871 sword bayonet by E. Wilhelm of Suhl for the 1871 Mauser Rifle.
The bayonet has brass grips, smooth on one side and grooved on the other. The crossguard is stamped with regimental markings 4.R.R.166. and is stamped at the ricasso with the manufacturer detail ' E. Wilhelm Suhl'
The back of the blade has the Prussian ‘Crown above W’ mark and ‘74’ date stamp (1874). The single edged blade measures 18.3". The blade has light staining consistent with age but no damage. The brass mounted black leather is regimentally marked 107.R.R.8.226.

A Regimentally marked 1888 pattern MKII Lee Metford bayonet.
Pommel marked 2.R.H for the 2nd battalion of the Black Watch (Royal Highlanders)
The bayonet has a 12” (30.5cm) blade with the left ricasso stamped with V.R over crown and 7, 93 for the manufacture date July 1893, and the right ricasso stamped with the British broad arrow over “W.D” (War Department), inspector's mark and "X" bending test mark.

Overall length of 16 ¾” (42.5cm).The bayonet comes with its original leather steel mounted scabbard.

In overall good condition.

French Model 1874 Gras Sword Bayonet
A good original French Gras Sword bayonet for the Model 1874 Gras rifle, the successor of the Chassepot. It has a straight, clean 52.5cm (20 ½”) T back blade. The back of the blade is dated 1877 and is marked by the manufacturer, ‘Manufactures D’Armes De St. Étienne’. The slab wood grips are in good undamaged condition. It has a hooked quillon which is secured with two rivets and muzzle ring. It has a brass pommel and a push button release which operates smoothly. The cross guard has numerous inspection marks and is numbered ‘L 81682’. It is complete with its original blued steel scabbard which has matching serial number ‘L 81682’

French Model 1866 Chassepot Sword Bayonet
This is a good, matching numbers model 1866 Chassepot sword bayonet & scabbard.
Both bayonet and scabbard are stamped with the same matching serial number 42693.

The 22 ¾” (57.5cm) Yataghan blade is in good clean condition and the spine is inscribed “Chat Mars 1872” which is the Chatellerault arsenal and manufacture date of March 1872.
Overall length 28” (71cm)

French 1833 Pattern Naval Cutlass
A totally original French 1833 pattern Naval Cutlass marked to the spine, "Manuf're R'ale de Chatellerault Janvier 1841" (manufactured royal of Chatellerault January 1841).
The 26 ½ inch blade with engraved anchors clearly visible on both sides has some areas of pitting but remains very firm in the hilt.
Complete with its original brass mounted black leather scabbard (in good solid condition)

French 1st Pattern M1886 Lebel Bayonet with matching numbers
This is a very good, 1st pattern French M1886 Lebel rifle bayonet with white metal hilt, down swept quillion and round button catch. 
The round button press was altered in 1893 to a squarer shape; this is the first pattern before the button catch was altered. The cruciform blade is 520mm (20 1/2"), working spring catch; it is complete with its original blued matching numbers steel scabbard (no dents) and brown leather frog.

All in very good condition.

A 1827 pattern rifle officers sword to the 1st Lancaster Volunteers c1870.

The slightly curved 32 ¼ inch (83cm) blade.

etched 'Rifle 1st Lancaster Volunteers', 'J.Brussell Esqr' and also the maker details of 'Satchel & Son Liverpool'.

37 ½ inches overall.

The 1900 pattern was the last cutlass to be used by the Royal Navy.

With a 28inch straight spear point blade with a shallow fuller running down each side.

The blackened hilt with heavy duty bowl guard and pressed leather grips.

Ricasso is stamped with the manufactures details of 'Wilkinson London' and the British War Department broad arrow mark over 'N' indicating acceptance by the Royal Navy.

This is a good example of a now hard to find P1900 cutlass.

The 12” double-edged blade is marked on the ricasso with a crown above VR (Queen Victoria ) numerous date and inspection marks and the manufacturer details of “Wilkinson London” 

The obverse ricasso is marked with "EFD" for the Enfield factory, the British War Department broad arrow, bend test and Enfield inspection stamp. The pommel is stamped “I W E L” for the 1st Battalion The Welsh Regiment. The blade has minor age related tarnish and small areas of pitting.

A French M1833 Naval Cutlass, the 67.5cm single edge broad curved fullered blade bearing traces of an engraved fouled anchor, the back edge engraved Manufre Rle.de Cha...., the iron bowl hilt with rolled edge, stamped with inspector's marks and anchor, with facetted grip, the black leather scabbard with brass mounts, each stamped 47. Blade has an uneven edge and has a plugged hole to the tip, the whole is rust pitted. The leather scabbard is split and with some losses.

A Rare British M1858 Naval Cutlass Bayonet, with a 26.5 inch steel blade showing the German Solingen maker mark of Anton Wingen and British inspectors markings of a crown over S/8 and crown over S/18. The hilt with sheet steel guard, chequered pressed leather grips and rife attachment locking catch. The pommel also stamped with British inspectors mark and the rack the number ‘10’.

British 1897 Royal Engineer Officers Sword – Victorian - Boer War

A Victorian British 1897 pattern Royal Engineer Officers sword by E Thurkle.

Edward Thurkle was registered at 5 Denmark St Soho London between 1876 and 1899.

The 33”  blade is in good straight condition and is etched with decoration of the Royal Engineers and maker detail to the recasso. The steel three-quarter basket hilt with crown VR cipher of Queen Victoria and Shagreen wire bound grip are also good. The original steel nickel plated scabbard is showing some slight plate loss and a few shallow dints but still holds and draws the sword well.

This is a good Boer war era sword by a good London cutler of the same period.

British 1827 pattern rifle Officers sword to the Kings Own Royal Rifle Corps.

The slightly curved 32“(81.5cm) blade with  the cutlers details to recasso  ‘J Jones 6 Regent St London’ , John Jones is listed at 6 Regent Street London as a military tailor and sword cutler between 1832-1868 and sold swords made by the Wilkinson sword company.

The sword is in all-round good condition with clear etching. the hilt is patinated but very sound. The fishskin grip in very good order, as are the twisted grip wire bindings, scabbard is also good with just some slight damage (denting) just below the throat.Overall length 38"

1885 Pattern Cavalry Troopers Sword marked to the 9th Lancers and later to the Duke of Lancaster’s Own Yeomanry. The 34.5” blade is stamped Weyersberg kirschbaum who manufactured large quantities of swords for the British Army during the latter half of the 19th Century due mainly to the fact that British sword makers could not meet demand. Both the 9th Lancers and the Duke of Lancaster’s Own Yeomanry had interesting military histories.The sword is in very good condition although the scabbard has some damage to the lower seam.
