An early Victorian (c1840) heavy wood, policeman's short truncheon (13 inch) with gilt painted crown over “VR” and eight ring grip.
In good solid condition with just some minor cracks to grip.

Painted Police Constable's Truncheon c1840
An interesting early Victorian hand painted Police Constable's truncheon c1840.
18 inches long with tuned wood handle, black painted body, painted crown over the initials 'KP' and the number '80'.
Truncheon is in good solid and totally original condition (no cracks or splits), just some wear and chips to paint commensurate with age.
A similar truncheon is mentioned on page 133 in Mervyn Mittons book The Policeman's Lot.

has a 25” curved spear point blade,etched with the maker details

It has a steel hand guard and stepped pommel with wire bound shagreen grips, all in good condition.
The overall length of the cutlass is 30.5”
Complete with its original steel mounted black leather scabbard.

Late 19th Century British Policeman's Leather
Truncheon Case
A
rare, original late 19th century British policeman's black leather
truncheon case with belt loop.
The Leather truncheon case is very nicely made
of thick leather, stitched down a seam on the back with a removable
top which has a collar.
The reverse of the case has a leather belt loop
stitched to it.
The top is retained with a leather strap which
is stitched to the belt loop.
The case measures 15 ½” long and retains all of
its stitching and is in very good condition.

Rare Georgian Mace Tipstave for the City of Leicester
A rare 23inc wooden ball top mace tipstave with black painted body and ring section with hand painted GR cypher surmounted by a crown on one side and the city of Leicester crest on the opposite, lower body painted gilt band and six ring grip with turned ball end.
The mace has areas of paint loss but remains in good solid original condition with no splits or cracks.

The truncheon has wear to painted decoration,
particularly to top; wear including minor split and small nicks to
wood.

Hiatt Irish 8 Police Handcuffs
Late 19th century Irish 8 police handcuffs with original key.
Due to their popularity with the Royal Irish Constabulary and the figure of eight shape, gave the cuff's the name “Irish Eights”.
Cuffs are marked 'HIATT 3' and the number '514' the key is also marked 'HIATT' on one side and '514' on the opposite side.
In good working order with just some very light surface rust consistent with age.

Hiatt Leading Handcuff
A
set of Late 19th century leading (come along) handcuff by Hiatt of
Birmingham. With engraved decoration to centre hinge and stamped
“Hiatt Steel”
This type of cuff was used to control prisoners
rather than just to restraint them, the smaller open end cuff would
be locked on to the prisoner’s wrist whilst the larger end would be
used by the officer to manipulate and inflict pain by twisting.
Used by British Police and H.M Prison Officers up until the
1950s.
In
excellent condition.
