French Model 1831 Short Sword dated 1832

An early production, French 1831 pattern brass handle artillery man's short sword, marked at the ricasso with the manufacturer “Royal Chatellerault” reverse dated 1832.

Complete with it's original matching numbers black leather brass mounted scabbard.

The French 1831 sword was based on ancient sculptural depictions of the Roman Gladius the standard sword of the Roman legionaries.

Sword and scabbard are in good solid condition with some areas of pitting to blade and a split to brass drag of the scabbard.

British 1885 Pattern Cavalry Troopers Sword 9th Lancers 

1885 Pattern Cavalry Troopers Sword marked to the 9th Lancers and later to the Duke of Lancaster’s Own Yeomanry. The 34.5” blade is stamped Weyersberg kirschbaum who manufactured large quantities of swords for the British Army during the latter half of the 19th Century due mainly to the fact that British sword makers could not meet demand. Both the 9th Lancers and the Duke of Lancaster’s Own Yeomanry had interesting military histories.The sword is in very good condition although the scabbard has some damage to the lower seam.

A Royal Navy Warrant Officer's Sword c1900, the 80 cm blade with single part fuller, etched with a crowned fouled anchor and the Royal coat of arms amongst scrolling foliage, also bearing maker's name, ''R.C. James & Co., Queen Street, Portsmouth'', the back with etched panel named to J Ore, R.N., the gothic style gilt brass hilt with folding guard, cast with fouled anchor, wire bound fishskin grip, gilt thread bullion knot, brass-mounted black leather scabbard with twin ring suspensions. Blade is in very good condition. Hilt with slight wear to gilding. Slight wear to fishskin grip. Scabbard badly cracked above brass shoe/drag and with general wear and scuffing to leather.

A rare model 1871 Royal Navy cutlass bayonet for the Martini Henry rifle with 64cm single edged blade double edged for last 20cm now showing pitting consistent with use at sea, the back edge stamped W/R crown/BR/26, the steel bowl hilt with chequered black pressed leather grips now in poor condition.

The left pommel is stamped N.

A Rare British M1858 Naval Cutlass Bayonet, with a 26.5 inch steel blade showing the German Solingen maker mark of Anton Wingen and British inspectors markings of a crown over S/8 and crown over S/18. The hilt with sheet steel guard, chequered pressed leather grips and rife attachment locking catch. The pommel also stamped with British inspectors mark and the rack the number ‘10’.

All in good aged condition.

Overall length 32 inches.

Prussian M1873 Artillery Sword

Prussian world war one era M73 artillery enlisted man's sword with original steel scabbard.

The hilt is firm and the bakelite grips are undamaged, the blade spine is marked with a crown over W 00 indicating the year 1900.

Blade with original bright finish and is generally clean with just odd patches of discoloration.

The original scabbard is regimentally marked 'S.S.2.II.6.111' and is dent free.

Good overall condition.

French Model 1874 Gras Sword Bayonet
A good original French Gras Sword bayonet for the Model 1874 Gras rifle, the successor of the Chassepot. It has a straight, clean 52.5cm (20 ½”) T back blade. The back of the blade is dated 1877 and is marked by the manufacturer, ‘Manufactures D’Armes De St. Étienne’. The slab wood grips are in good undamaged condition. It has a hooked quillon which is secured with two rivets and muzzle ring. It has a brass pommel and a push button release which operates smoothly. The cross guard has numerous inspection marks and is numbered ‘L 81682’. It is complete with its original blued steel scabbard which has matching serial number ‘L 81682’

British Pattern 1853 Cavalry Trooper's Sword : Royal Horse Artillery

British Pattern 1853 Cavalry Trooper's sword with a 35 ½ inch curved spear point blade, double edged for the last 9inces, ricasso with the German manufactures mark of J&C and British crown proof mark stamped to the opposite side.

Chequered leather two piece grips riveted to each side of the tang, wrought iron three bar guard with top of tang engraved R.H.A DT 155.

All in very good condition. Straight blade tight hilt.

P1899 British Cavalry Troopers Sword 13th Hussars

A 1899 pattern cavalry troopers sword manufactured by Enfield and issued to the 13th Hussars.

Sword with 33.3 inch slightly curved spear point blade, stamped at the ricasso with “EFD” and various war department inspection stamps and spine stamped /99.

The hand guard is bowl shaped sheet steel with knot slit near pommel and pear – shaped reinforcing piece on the outside.

The inner edge of the guard is stamped “13 H” “R 57 D” and the issue date “3.1900”.

Grips are riveted leather strips.

The 13th Hussars went to South Africa for the Boer War (1899-1902), fighting at Colenso (1899), the Relief of Ladysmith (1900) and in the anti-guerrilla operations towards the end of the campaign.

Sword is in good condition with just a few nicks to the blade edge and dings to the guard as to be expected on a sword used in a war.

Lacks scabbard.
