French Model 1874 Gras Sword Bayonet with matching numbers scabbard
This is an excellent original example of a French Gras Sword bayonet for the Model 1874 Gras rifle.
It has a straight clean 52.5cm (20 ½”) T back blade, the back of the blade is dated February 1879 and is marked by the manufacturer, ‘Manufactures D’Armes De St. Étienne’.
The bayonet has slab wood grips, brass pommel with push button release and a hooked quillon which is secured with two rivets.
The cross guard has numerous inspection marks and is numbered ‘P 14988’. It is complete with its original blued steel scabbard which has matching number ‘P 14988’.
It would truly be very hard to find a better example than this one.
