Hatton Garden Public Office Truncheon
A very rare Hatton Garden Public Office Truncheon.
18 ½ inches wooden truncheon with turned beehive grip black painted body and gold painted lettering of 'P.O.H.G', (now faint) for Public Office Hatton Garden and the number '18' , pommel stamped with the maker stamped ‘Parker Holborn’.
.The Hatton Garden Public Office was one of seven Public Office's that were opened in and around London in 1792 following the opening of the Bow Street Public Office in1740.
In 1794 Hatton Garden Public Office ordered 22 large truncheons for 'constables'.
The truncheon is also stamped in two places with a crown over the letters' MP' which would have been added in 1929 on formation of the Metropolitan Police.
