Scarce British Royal Navy P1856 Sawback Sword by Wilkinson
A Pattern 1856 Pioneers sword with a 22.5 inch (57cm) sawback blade, stamped at the ricasso with 'N' and British War Department acceptance mark indicating property of the Royal Navy.
The opposite ricasso is stamped with the maker details of 'Wilkinson Sword Company London' and the manufacture date of 3'92 (March 1892).
The Model 1856 Army Pioneers sword was used by the Royal Navy between 1864 and 1914. (See plate 79 of Swords for Sea Service volume II by May & Annis).
This is a good example of a scarce Royal Navy marked P1856 Sawback Sword complete with original brass mounted black leather scabbard.
